The Department has significant achievements in educating specialists for the gas industry. Education is provided in the degree programmes of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering, Geoengineering and Drilling Engineering, Geothermal Energy – Engineering and Technology, and Zero-Emission Gas Technologies. In addition, the Department conducts courses within the AGH Doctoral School in the discipline of Environmental Engineering, Mining, and Energy.

The main research topics addressed at the Department of Natural Gas Engineering include: reservoir engineering; computer modelling and design; technologies for the exploitation of gas and gas-condensate reservoirs; gas processing and treatment for transportation; natural gas transmission and distribution; liquefied natural gas (LNG) technology; gas power engineering and gas utilisation; underground gas storage; capture and utilisation of mine gases; as well as fluid mechanics and thermodynamics.
